HZPC and Rungis are jointly putting colourful Perupas on the market

March 2015

Perupas are potatoes, but not as we know them in Europe. Perupas are ancient. Breeding and trading company HZPC in Joure has the genetic source material of very ancient indigenous potato varieties that are still being grown by the farmers in Peru. Crossing them with European varieties has resulted in colourful ‘ancient’ potatoes, which are now also on the menu of some Dutch restaurants. And this is possible as a result of the unique collaboration between HZPC and catering supplier Rungis in Barendrecht.
