One of the major aims of the Chilean potato growers is to build up their own chip-processing industry. However, achieving this aim seems like utopia. The country is too isolated for that and faces great competition from neighbour Argentina and, above all, from distant Europe. So, for the present, table potatoes dominate the local market. However, the country does offer opportunities to further expand the trade in seed potatoes in Latin American countries. A report from an amazingly long South American republic, where north and south are just as far apart as twice the distance from Madrid to Stockholm.
