Wild potato varieties grow high in the mountains of the Peruvian Andes where above 4,000 metres, hiking is a challenge due to thin air. Despite the wealth of potato biodiversity, the farmers in this region are generally very poor. To help them, the Belgian non-governmental organisation (NGO) Trias has been active in the region now for thirty years. One of the recent projects is the supervision of Coopagros from the village of Kishuara in the province of Andahuaylas. This year, the cooperative installed a freeze-drying line to make the continued production of the famous Chuño (freeze-dried) potatoes possible and to provide the growers with a better income.

Europatat looks back at a successful congress for the European potato sector
European Potato Trade Association Europatat reports that the 2023 edition of its annual congress has been a successful event for the European potato community.
