Polish grower achieves good results with drip irrigation

November 2021

Due to persistent drought and heat in the growing season, cultivating potatoes in Poland has been a major challenge in recent years. As a result of the dry summers in 2018 and 2019, growers who could not irrigate achieved less than a quarter of the normal yield. In order to be able to deal with drought, growers are increasingly investing in irrigation techniques. In doing so, they expect to improve the yield security and the quality of the harvested product. One of these growers is Szymon Cena who, together with a consortium of Dutch companies within an RVO (Netherlands Enterprise Agency) project has achieved good results with irrigation techniques in combination with fertigation and soil moisture measurements.
