PotatoWorld magazine: the #1 source of potato information
India’s potato industry is entering a decisive new phase. As the country accelerates its goal to become a global leader in production, processing, and value-added innovation, Media Today Pvt. Ltd. has announced an initiative: the Global Potato Summit (GPS) 2025, set for 11–12 December 2025 at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, followed by two days of live farm demonstrations. The event is designed as a transformative platform to elevate India’s status within the international potato value chain and create new pathways for investment, innovation, and cross-border collaboration.
The Summit is gaining significant traction, driven by strong institutional backing and a high level of strategic engagement from across the potato ecosystem. Under the leadership of Abhishek Dev, Chairman of APEDA and Chair of the GPS Honorary Advisory Board, the event is being framed around global benchmarks for trade, sustainability, and technological advancement. A broad advisory panel—bringing together processors, exporters, seed developers, machinery manufacturers, cold-chain specialists, farmer organisations, and research institutions—is steering the Summit as a national platform for sector-wide modernization.
International participation will be one of the defining features of GPS 2025. Delegations, companies, and policymakers from more than 15 countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Israel, China, and major Asian and African producers, have confirmed attendance. “Their involvement brings advanced know-how in breeding, precision agriculture, storage systems, and processing technologies, making GPS 2025 one of the most globally connected potato events ever held in India”, the organisers share.
Backed by APEDA, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, CIP India, NHB, CPRI, MIDH, and several State Governments, the Summit also has the strong support of private-sector leaders such as MANTRA (Haldiram’s & SK Group), Agristo, Hungritos, HyFarm, Technico, Kiremko, Ross, Simplot, Tummers, Mahindra HZPC, MS International, DF Bio Tech, Survir Agritech, Jain Irrigation, and others.

India, the world’s second-largest potato producer at 55 million tonnes, is witnessing a fast-evolving consumer landscape. Rising demand for processed products—driven by QSR expansion, urbanisation, and changing food habits—is pushing the industry into a new growth era. The frozen potato segment alone, valued at USD 1.77 billion in 2023, is projected to quadruple by 2032 to USD 7.32 billion. Dehydrated products such as flakes and powders are also gaining ground across the snacks, bakery, baby food, and ready-meal industries.
Yet the sector faces chronic challenges: fragmented supply chains, uneven cold storage capacity, high post-harvest losses, quality variability, and underutilised export potential. Climate vulnerabilities and gaps in SPS compliance continue to limit growth.
GPS 2025 seeks to address these issues by bringing together all stakeholders—producers, processors, exporters, policymakers, researchers, global corporations, and technology innovators—on one coordinated platform. The Summit aims to drive progress in mechanisation, digital traceability, precision farming, modern storage, R&D for high-yielding processing varieties, and export competitiveness under a unified “Potato India” identity.
On 12–13 December, GPS partners with Agristo to host large-scale field demonstrations in Upeda Village, Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. Farmers will test new potato varieties, smart irrigation tools, fertilizers, and high-efficiency machinery under real farm conditions. The demonstrations are designed to speed up the adoption of modern technologies, improve profitability, and connect global innovations to local practice.
First conceptualised during the 2024 World Potato Congress in Adelaide, the Global Potato Summit has rapidly evolved into a global knowledge and innovation platform. The 2025 edition in India is expected to draw broad international participation and establish the country as a hub for potato technology, processing, and trade.
For India, GPS 2025 represents more than an industry event—it marks a pivotal moment for a sector that is expanding faster than ever. With rising global relevance, a strong domestic market, and increasing international engagement, India is positioning itself at the forefront of the global potato economy. The Summit promises to unlock new opportunities for investment, partnership, and knowledge exchange, setting the foundation for a technologically advanced, sustainable, and globally competitive potato industry.
