At the beginning of November, the annual variety show of Dutch and also foreign potato merchants took place in and around Emmeloord. As usual, Potato World Magazine toured along all the presentations with a key question. ‘What is the most important trend in your breeding work and which is the most promising variety? That was the question that was put to the representatives of the potato merchants. This was often followed by a moment of silence. ‘Yes, what direction are we in fact taking with our breeding work, which market trends are we following, where are we heading, what is the common denominator. Is there only one direction or are there more?’ you hear some musing. Although the various companies have views that may differ widely, there are also similarities.
