Plantera is a potato trading house, who is specialized in breeding, selling and the production of seed and ware potatoes. “We are specialising in our own exclusive varieties”, states the company. “This year our new star is the variety Oscar.”
“Our new variety Oscar is a mid-early, partly firm-mealy cooking potato variety with a good taste. The expectation is that our new variety will be listed on the official variety list in the beginning of 2024. We have chosen the name Oscar because the variety can gain different types of Oscars, like the most famous movies, on the different characteristics. The variety is resistant to late blight, virus, internal defects and also good resistance to Globodera Rostochiensis (1,2,3,4). These are definitely worth the Oscars.”
“We introduce the Oscar as a low input traditional variety, with high level of late blight resistance, what makes the varieties also adaptable for the organic segment”, explains Plantera. “In addition to our original retail segment including high resistance, we will focus on expanding with varieties for French fries and low input. We will demonstrate our advanced material of the French fries segment on our exhibition in our modern office in Marknesse.” ●
