In February this year, HZPC received the ‘Royal’ designation. A fantastic milestone for the 125-year-old company, but ultimately it’s the future vision that determines whether a company remains successful. Gerard Backx, CEO of the Royal HZPC Group, looks ahead and sees opportunities for varieties with a wide range of resistances in countries where the population will increase significantly in the coming years. ‘The Dutch area of seed potatoes is only a few percent of the total potato area worldwide. There’s still an incredibly large area planted with non-Dutch, non-certified seed potatoes. That’s where our growth opportunities lie’, says Backx looking to the future.
